The Department of Political Science and International Relations of the University of the Peloponnese (PEDIS), located in Corinth (southern Greece), is a dynamic academic institution offering both undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. It combines academic research with projects offering tangible results to the wider society. The Department has developed a focus on International Relations and Area Studies (Mediterranean and Middle East, Africa and the Balkans). In addition, PEDIS has heavily invested in information technologies to advance teaching and research. The Department’s staff has a strong research output coupled with project management know-how and maintains a wide variety of partnerships with academic institutions, civil society organizations and business associations both within Greece and abroad. Among others, the Department offers an English-language M.A. programme in “Mediterranean Studies” in cooperation with the University of Bologna (Italy), INALCO, Sorbonne (France), Yasar University (Turkey) and the University of Pafos (Cyprus).
PEDIS currently employs 16 academics and 6 administrative officers. The Department also hosts visiting researchers with specific research agendas, while it engages in its research activities a growing number of doctoral and post-doctoral researchers (35). PEDIS has a fully equipped research lab and a library that also offers full-text access to hundreds of international academic journals, thousands of e-books and numerous databases. Since the Department’s establishment, academics have produced a respectable volume of quality publications, including many articles in international journals with impact factor. It has also been particularly successful in winning competitive research grants. It currently implements research projects to the tune of €1.8 million, achieving rich collaborations with Greek and international institutions.
